Husky Leadership Initiative
The Husky Leadership Initiative (HLI) was designed to meet the needs of individual students and student organizations through one-time workshops on a variety of topics. These workshops are based around six primary categories: Accessible, Experiential, Interdependent, Justice-Oriented, Personal Development, and Student Org Leadership.
By completing one workshop from each category, students can earn the HLI certificate and LinkedIn badge! Through HLI, students will develop a better understanding of what it means to be a part of the Northeastern community, a productive member of their clubs and student organizations, and successful leaders in their professional careers.
Another great benefit of HLI workshops is our collaboration efforts with campus partners to host sessions that best meet the needs of students. The Husky Leadership Initiative is designed to meet students where they are by providing by-request sessions as well as continuously adding new topics. Accessible
Based on the Circular Leadership value of Accessibility, the Accessible HLI workshops are geared to help students learn more about themselves, their identities, and how to acknowledge the barriers that may inhibit others from becoming or succeeding as leaders.
Experiential
Our Experiential HLI workshops focus on learning through doing. We host a variety of workshops that allow you to develop and practice your leadership skills in real time! Some of our Experiential HLI Workshops include networking over pizza, improv classes, and ethical decision making. Our HLI Experiential workshops are a great way to get up and get connected with campus as many of these include off campus partners or group lessons where networking is encouraged!
Interdependent
Based on the Circular Leadership value of interdependence, the Interdependent HLI workshops operate on the understanding that leadership is reliant on building connections, working together, and uplifting others. These HLI workshops focus on forming your circle who supports and encourages you, as well as general networking events to meet people of similar backgrounds.
Justice-oriented
Our Justice-Oriented HLI workshops help students develop critical thinking skills and learn how to address injustice as a leader. Students learn how to navigate issues like bias, privilege, and microaggressions. Many of our Justice-Oriented sessions are hosted by campus partners who work with these issues every day. If this topic is interesting to you, we also encourage you to take a look at LEAD360’s Voices for Social Change program, where students spend 8 weeks focused on developing as social justice-focused leaders.
Student Org Leadership
Our Student Org Leadership HLI workshops support the work of student organizations on campus. These workshops are designed to help the leaders of our student clubs and organizations address issues that may occur in their work. Previous HLI workshops have included understanding yourself or your team as leaders or marketing yourself as a leader.
Personal DEVELOPMENT
Our Personal Development HLI workshops are aimed at allowing students to recognize their personal leadership strengths and styles. Understanding personal leadership style is essential to becoming a leader in your community as HLI facilitates sessions on identifying values, developing a vision, and understanding our morals. Our Personal Development HLI workshops have included MBTI, True Colors, and the Clifton StrengthsQuest.
